Services
AUTOMOTIVE WINDOW TINTING
Your vehicle is exposed to serious UV and heat on every drive, even on overcast Portland days. (Oregon’s cloud cover blocks visible light, not ultraviolet radiation, which means UV exposure is a year-round concern in the Pacific Northwest.)
Our automotive window tinting protects your interior from cracking, fading, and heat buildup while giving your car a clean, finished look. We custom-cut every installation using precision templates, not a generic, one-size-fits-all approach.
CERAMIC WINDOW TINTING
For Portland drivers who want the highest level of performance, ceramic window tint is the clear upgrade. XPEL’s PRIME XR and PRIME XR PLUS ceramic films use nano-ceramic particle technology to reject significantly more infrared heat than standard dyed or metallic films without interfering with Bluetooth, GPS, satellite radio, or your car’s electronic toll pass.
If you drive a newer vehicle with advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), ceramic tint is the smart choice because it won’t disrupt those sensors. Ceramic tint also holds up to the Pacific Northwest’s wet conditions. It won’t turn purple or degrade the way lower-grade films can after a few seasons of rain and temperature swings.
PAINT PROTECTION FILM
Tinting your windows? It’s the perfect time to protect your paint, too. Portland’s roads, especially the gravel-strewn shoulders on Highway 26 and I-84, throw a lot of debris at your front end. Our paint protection film (PPF) service for Portland uses XPEL’s self-healing clear bra film to guard against rock chips, scratches, and road grit. Many customers bundle tint and PPF in a single appointment to save time.
Tesla and Electric Vehicle Tinting
Portland is one of the most EV-friendly cities in the country, and we see Teslas, Rivians, and other EVs in our shop every week. Our Tesla-specific tinting services are tailored to the unique glass configurations of electric vehicles, including the expansive Model Y and Model 3 roof glass. Ceramic tint is especially valuable for EVs because reducing cabin heat means less drain on your battery from climate control.
Ceramic vs. Standard Window Tint: What Portland Drivers Should Know
This is one of the most common questions we get from Portland customers. Here’s a straightforward comparison:
| Feature | Standard Dyed Film | Ceramic Film (XPEL) |
| UV rejection | Up to 99% | Up to 99% |
| Infrared heat rejection | Moderate (25–45%) | Superior (up to 96%) |
| Signal interference | Possible with metallic films | None |
| Fade resistance | May purple or fade over time | Color-stable for life of film |
| Clarity | Good | Excellent — near-optically clear |
| Warranty | Varies by brand | XPEL lifetime warranty |
We install XPEL window films across the board, both their standard and ceramic lines. For most Portland drivers, we recommend ceramic tint for the front windows (where heat rejection matters most) and match the rear windows to your desired shade. This approach gives you the best balance of performance, appearance, and value.
Already have a tint that’s seen better days? Bubbling, purpling, and peeling are signs of a low-quality installation or expired film. Read our guide on how to fix a bad tinting job or learn about removing window tint bubbles and then see us for a proper reinstallation.
Oregon Window Tint Laws: What’s Legal in Portland?
Oregon’s window tint laws (ORS 815.221) set specific limits on how dark your tint can be, measured by Visible Light Transmission (VLT), the percentage of light that passes through the film and glass combined. The lower the VLT number, the darker the tint. Here’s the current breakdown:
| Window | Sedans | SUVs / Trucks / Vans |
| Windshield | Non-reflective tint on top 6 inches | Non-reflective tint on top 6 inches |
| Front side windows | 35% VLT minimum | 35% VLT minimum |
| Rear side windows | 35% VLT minimum | Any darkness allowed |
| Rear window | 35% VLT minimum | Any darkness allowed |
Additional Oregon rules to know:
- Maximum reflectivity: 13% on all windows. Highly mirrored or metallic-looking tint is not permitted.
- Restricted colors: Red, green, amber, and yellow tint colors are prohibited.
- Installer certification: Oregon requires your tint installer to provide a certificate stating the film’s VLT and reflectance. We provide this with every installation.
- Medical exemptions: Drivers with qualifying medical conditions may apply for a darker tint with a physician’s or optometrist’s signed documentation, which must be kept in the vehicle.
- Fines: Violations carry penalties up to $360.
Every vehicle that leaves our shop is guaranteed to be Oregon-compliant. We measure and verify VLT on every installation, so you don’t have to worry about being pulled over. What is the darkest legal window tint in Oregon?
For sedans, Oregon law requires a minimum of 35% VLT (Visible Light Transmission) on all side and rear windows. That means the tint and glass combined must allow at least 35% of light through. SUVs, trucks, and vans get more flexibility; the front side windows must be 35% VLT, but the rear side and back windows can be any darkness. The windshield is limited to a non-reflective tint strip on the top six inches. We ensure every installation meets these limits, and we provide the required compliance certificate with your service.
How much does window tinting cost in Portland?
Pricing depends on your vehicle type, the number of windows, and the film you choose. Standard dyed films are the most affordable option, while premium ceramic films like XPEL PRIME XR PLUS cost more but deliver substantially better heat rejection and longevity. Contact us for a free quote tailored to your specific vehicle. We’ll walk you through the options so you can choose the best fit for your budget and priorities.
Can I roll down my windows right after tinting?
We recommend waiting 3–5 days before rolling down your windows. This gives the film enough time to fully cure and bond to the glass. In Portland’s cooler months, it may take a little longer. We’ll give you specific guidance based on the time of year.
Does ceramic tint interfere with my car’s electronics?
No. XPEL’s ceramic window films are 100% metal-free so that they won’t interfere with cell signals, GPS, Bluetooth, satellite radio, or your toll transponder. This is one of the key advantages over older metallic tint films, and it’s especially important for newer vehicles with ADAS (advanced driver-assistance systems) that rely on sensors near the windshield and windows.
Do you tint Teslas and other electric vehicles?
Absolutely. We tint Teslas, Rivians, and other EVs regularly and have templates specifically designed for their glass configurations. Ceramic tint is particularly popular with EV owners because it reduces cabin heat, which means your climate control works less and your battery range improves. See our Tesla tinting page for more details.
How long does a window tint installation take?
Most full-vehicle tint jobs take about 2–3 hours. We use computer-cut templates and work in a clean, controlled environment, which keeps the process efficient without cutting corners. Drop your car off in the morning, and it’ll be ready by the afternoon.
